Talk:Peanut Butter: Disproves Evolution?
From FreeThoughtPedia
From the article, 'abiogenesis' should be 'a biogenesis'. Can't correct it for some reason, if someone can go ahead and make the change that would be great. Cheers. Libertarian 06:51, 6 December 2007 (CST)
- changed "a biogenesis" --Pile 11:37, 6 December 2007 (CST)
- Also, the phrase 'quantum levels of time' is misleading, quantum referring to something really small. We should be talking about geological levels of time instead. And as Richard Dawkins points out in The God Delusion, the biogenesis event could have been extremely improbable and still have happened, due to the vast timescales involved, and the number of candidate planets it could have happened on. Obviously we can only be discussing this question on a planet which a biogenesis event has occurred. On an unrelated note if someone could drop me a note on my talk page re editing access to page that would be much appreciated, i can't seem to edit this page even though i've registered and verified my email address. There are three additional problems with the argument as I see it:
- Although matter and energy are present in the same system, it may not be the right type of matter or the right type of energy.
- Although millions of jars of peanut butter are opened every day, the process of creating successful life took the equivalent billions of jars every second for billions of years. It could be a very long time before we actually witness new life.
- New life, when it happens, will be too small to see with the naked eye. It may also not be suited to it's environment and simply die. For all we know, there may be new life being created in EVERY jar of peanut butter moments before it is eaten. Simply stating that there is no life in the peanut butter does not make it so.
There are two additional problems with the peanut butter argument. Peanut butter is pasteurized, therefore the conditions are not right. Peanut butter is vacuum sealed, therefore the conditions are not right.
